Mindfulness Meditation & DNA Activation

Candle Image
A recent study by researchers in Wisconsin, Spain and France shows that certain genes can be intentionally switched on (or activated), causing specific molecular changes in the body, via the use of mindfulness meditation.

After a period of eight hours of mindfulness practice, meditators taking part in the research successfully showed reduced levels of pro-inflammatory genes in addition to altered levels of gene-regulating machinery, resulting in a faster recovery from stressful situations.

The study shows that although we are unable to change our genetic material using deep states of meditation, we can indeed influence which genes are being expressed and how much they are affecting the body; a theory notably proposed by Dr Bruce Lipton who has previously written and spoken about imaginal cells.

Mindfulness-based tests have already previously shown beneficial effects on inflammatory disorders and have been endorsed by the American Heart Association as being preventative.

The study was published in peer-reviewed journal, Psychoneuroendocrinology, and has been confirmed by Richard J Davidson, founder of Center For Investigating Healthy Minds. Davidson is also the William James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
